Mountain Goat Hunt, 7 Days
|
Prices and Availaility
Summary:
Mountain goats weigh between 150 and 250 pounds. Their horns are usually between 6 and 11 inches in length with a base circumference of 4-1/2 to 6-1/2 inches. Goat horns are not particularly impressive when compared to some of the other game species, but from the standpoint of physical hardship, spectacular setting, trophy judging, and difficulty of the terrain, the trophy billy goat presents a unique challenge. The pelt of a prime late fall or winter mountain goat is a beautiful specimen because of the longer hair of their winter coat.
For an early season goat hunt, we recommend the client to be in good physical condition and able to backpack through rough, steep terrain with a 30 - 60 pound pack.
The average horn size of goats taken with us is over 8-3/4", and our success over the last 6 years has been 100%.
Why are our late season goat hunts different than other guide operations in Alaska and BC?
- Boat-based hunt - Our late season goat hunts are boat-based, so that you have somewhere warm and cozy to come back to each night.
- Limited Number of Clients - We only take four hunters a year on these hunts.
- High Success - We have had 100% success on these hunts for the last 7 years.
- Excellent Trophies - November 30th is the end of the season in this region. The coats on these animals during this time are almost unreal. Their fur will be almost a foot long in some areas. Our goat horns average over 8-3/4"+ with some approaching the 10" range. During most years, we have seen some extremely large Billy's (10" to 11-1/2"+) up in the higher elevations. We're hoping to get some of our clients up there to get one or two of these big boys.
- Very Large Populations - The goat populations in our areas have been stable to increasing - the latest counts for the glacial fjord areas we hunt is between 1,200 and 1,600 goats (surveyed August 2001 and 2002 by Alaska Department of Fish and Game).
- Experience - We have personally and professionally hunted these goats since the late 70's.
- The View - I cannot express enough - how truly awesome these huge glacial fjords really are. As you enter, all you can see are icebergs, steep walls of rock, large waterfalls, glaciers, and goats everywhere.
- Return Clients - If you speak with any of our past clients, you'll find that most of them either:
- have returned to hunt with us,
- plan to hunt with us again,
- are booked to hunt with us again, or
- wished they could come back up and hunt with us.
