Brown Bear Hunt, 10 Days
|
Prices and Availaility
Summary:
Brown Bear densities are as high as one bear per square mile in most hunting areas, average between 7 and 9-1/2+ feet squared, and weigh between 500 and 900 pounds.
They have an especially good sense of smell and under the right conditions may be able to detect odors more than a mile distant. Their hearing and eyesight are probably equivalent to that of humans. Bears often stand upright to test the wind and to see better.
Our current average is 8' 3" squared with a skull size of almost 23". Our success is 81%, which includes bow and mainland hunters. The mainland has some nice brown bears, but their numbers are not near as plentiful as the islands - although, you will find lots of black bears.
This last spring (2002), we enjoyed 100% success on the ABC island brown bear hunts - four hunters, four bears. Among them, were the folks from Christensen Arms and produced two 1/2 hour tv shows on the Outdoor Channel for their new program - Christensen Arms Outdoors.
Spring usually has the best weather and highest bear count. The bears will be found eating the newly sprouted green grass in the tidal flats.
During the Fall, the bears can be found in streams and rivers feeding on salmon, but be sure and book early as mountain goat, moose, and deer hunts occupy most of that time of the year.
No matter when you visit, there are always lots of bears to see and seafood to chase.
